Most Dangerous Auto Races

5. The German Grand Prix (Nurburgring)

The world’s most famous racing series, Formula One features the most talented drivers negotiating the most technically difficult courses, often at speeds of over 200 mph. It’s a sport that’s become notorious for its high fatality rate, thanks to treacherous courses like Spa-Francorchamps and Italy’s Monza circuit. But perhaps no track has proven to be as dangerous as Germany’s famed Nurburgring, which once claimed the lives of 5 F1 drivers in a fifteen-year span. The track was first built in 1927, but it has been redesigned several times over the years, as its fast speeds, elevation changes, and tight corners have time and again proven to be too

Ugliest Sports Uniforms

5. San Diego Padres, 1983

Not many professional sports franchises have been daring enough to dawn the brown, orange, and yellow combo that the Padres wore in the early 80’s. Surprising? Absolutely, perhaps someday teams will realize that this is how you build a winner. At least is was an upgrade from the 70′s yellow mustard and brown uniforms.
4. Vancouver Canucks, 1978 – 1984
It took courage to take the ice wearing the “flying V”. I can’t say that the current Canucks uniforms are
much better, but this was definitely rock bottom.

Athletes Who Lost Their Olympic Medal

5. Marion Jones – United States

Out of all of the athletes on the list, Marion Jones is definitely one who took the hardest fall, but it was entirely her fault. She had a blossoming career that was as successful as ever. Ever since high school she was racking up titles after her success in track and field. A very notable success was her win at the 100 m sprint at the CIF California State Meet; however, even at such a young age, Jones was accused of doping, though this time she had a great attorney. In 1992 at the age of 17, she was invited to compete in the Olympic trials, but she declined the invitation to be an alternate. Instead she competed in the IAAF World Junior

Superstitious Hockey Players

5. Pelle Lindbergh

Former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender, Pelle Lindbergh, use to wear the same orange t-shirt under his equipment during each hockey game. The t-shirt was never washed and when it would start falling apart, he would have it sewn up. During intermissions, he would drink a Swedish beverage called ‘Pripps’. He would only accept the drink if it had two ice cubes, was delivered by a certain team trainer and as long as it was in his right hand. Lindbergh’s quirky habits helped him on the ice with a record of 87 wins, 49 losses and 15 ties in 157 NHL regular season games. Unfortunately, Lindbergh died as a result of a devastating car crash at just 26 years of age.

Shortest NBA Basketball Players

5. Nate Robinson – 5’9″

Nate Robinson plays for the New York Knicks. After having a very successful college career by leading the Washington Huskies to two NCAA basketball tournament appearances, he was the 21st pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. The Phoenix Suns picked him up but he was soon after traded to the New York Knicks. During the 2006 All-Star Weekend, Robinson won the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest. His best dunk was when he jumped over Spud Webb and got the perfect score of 50. Nate topped that performance at the 2009 Dunk Contest by leaping over the 2008 Dunk Contest winner, Dwight Howard (6’11″).

Longest Sporting Events

5. Boxing: Harry Sharpe vs. Frank Crosby
Total Time: 5 hours, 3 minutes, 43 seconds (76 rounds)

Anyone who’s ever boxed can tell you just how physically taxing of a sport it is, so it’s amazing to discover that there have been fights that managed to go on for several hours. One of the most notable is a match that took place in 1892 between Harry Sharp and Frank Crosby. At just over 5 hours, this brutal contest is the longest knockout fight to ever be held under modern boxing rules. The match took place in Nameoki, Illinois, and it was said to be a dead even fight, to the point that it wasn’t until the 76th round that both men finally knocked each other down simultaneously. Crosby supposedly hit his head on the ground hard, and even though he was able to get to his feet, Sharpe knocked him out a few minutes later. At a total time of 5 hours,

Some Reasons Why Basketball is Better than Baseball

5. You Watch Basketball Indoors

Basketball is much better for fans, as we get to sit in a climate controlled arena – instead of sitting outside in cold, rainy weather.
4. Basketball Games Don’t Take Forever to Play
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has the longest basketball game time, with four 12 minute quarters (48 total minutes per game). College basketball (NCAA) plays two 20 minute halves, for a total of 40 minutes per game. With standard and “T.V.” timeouts and half-time factored in – NBA basketball games last a little under 2.5 hours on average. College basketball games are about 1/2 hour less than the NBA, averaging right around 2 hours per game. This is pretty much the “norm” for basketball, but you’ll get the
occasional overtime period. These last just five minutes for both the NBA and NCAA and can take anywhere from 10 to 30 additional minutes to complete because of time outs, fouls, etc.

Worst Sports Teams

5.  1975 Washington Capitals
Another expansion franchise, the Capitals went 8-67-5 to set the record for the worst season in NHL history. Along the way, they also earned the title for most road losses (39 out of 40 games) and the longest losing streak (17 games). Their failings can be traced to the fact that they gave up an average of five and a half goals a game, which, if you’re not a hockey fan, can be best described as “a hell of a lot.”
4.  1960 Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in North America (they’re worth about 1.65 billion dollars), but it was a long and painful journey to top spot. Their inaugural year was flat-out embarrassing; its only highlight was a tie game near the end of the season. They lost every other match, most by a large margin, to finish 0-11-1. Have we mentioned that expansion teams are hilariously awful? Because they totally are.

Reasons Why Football is Better Than Baseball

5. Importance of Schedule

In the other list we saw the length of schedule as being an advantage for baseball.  There are two sides to everything, and baseball has the expense of games coming at lesser importance – there are a number of World Series champions who have had seven-game losing streaks, for instance.
Every game matters in the NFL.  One loss can make or break a season, which adds to the excitement in football.

Sports Teams We Love To Hate

5. Los Angeles Lakers
While the Spurs have, in recent years, become a popular team to dislike in the NBA, the Lakers have tread that ground for decades now and show little signs of relinquishing their status as a team fans love to hate. Since the days of Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, the team that originated in Minneapolis has enjoyed a great deal of on the court success, but it is the flash and dazzle of the “Showtime” era Lakers where haters emerged. With Coach Pat Riley at the helm and stars like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy leading the way, L.A. claimed five titles in the 1980s. But it wasn’t their victories that drove basketball fans nuts. It was Pat Riley and his slicked back hair, Kareem and his skyhook, Kurt Rambis and his crazy dives across the court, and the coining of that dreaded term “Three-Peat” that continues to resound like nails on a chalkboard to old-school hoopheads. Yet newer fans have found plenty

The Most Dangerous Traditions in the World

5. Onbashira – Tokyo, Japan
A festival in Tokyo that only takes place once every six years, Onbashira is a tradition that many in the region claim has gone one for over 1200 years. When translated, the name literally means “the honored pillars.” There are two parts to the festival: Yamadashi and Satobiki, the first which takes place in May, and the second in April. Yamadashi is the more dangerous part of the festival. Men go into the forest and cut down trees and then ropes are attached to them and they are dragged down the mountain by the men. Many say this is a sign of bravery, but many have come out with injuries, and others have died while carrying out the traditions.

Starting Pitchers since 2000

5. C.C. Sabathia, New York Yankees
C.C. has a lot in common with our number 8 entry, in that he too came into the league on fire in 2001 and he too had not had a superstar named Ichiro Suzuki arrive the same year Sabathia would have won rookie of the year too. He finished his rookie season with a 17-5 record. Sabathia would become a fixture in the league top 10 for strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, and strikeouts per 9 innings. He would become an All-Star in 2003 and again in 2004. In 2007 Sabathia would win his first Cy Young award with a 19-7 record. After a slow start by the Indians in 2008 he would be traded to the Brewers and have one of the best finishes to a year imaginable. He would go 11-2 for the Brewers with an amazing 1.65 ERA, pitch 6 complete games and even be considered for the NL Cy Young even though he only spend half the season in the National League. He has a record of 135-81 since 2000 with 1590 strikeouts.

Professional Sports Scandals

5. Tim Donaghy
Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy set off a firestorm of controversy in 2007. That summer, an FBI investigation found that Donaghy had placed tens of thousands of dollars worth of bets on games that he officiated. Worse yet, he admitted that he made calls that affected the outcome of the game, so that he could manipulate the point spread and win his wagers. Donaghy also went on to say that he was not the only NBA referee involved in such behavior, and that the league themselves sometimes ordered officials to extend playoff series to help increase TV ratings and ticket sales. Commissioner David Stern has denied this charge, and while the furor surrounding this scandal has died down in recent months, it nonetheless called into question the integrity of an entire sports league.

Swedish Female Bodybuilder Irene Andersen

Irene Andersen is a shocking female bodybuilder from Sweden. I say shocking because bodybuilding is considered a “man” sport.  Its shocking to see a woman having such big muscles.
