Pleasant or not, these preserve the charm of the sporting event. And with every cricketing nation in the world watching, an upset in the world cup delivers the greatest impact.
The past couple of World Cups have seen a tad more than their share of the unexpected – probably a result of the many changes made to the format of the game over the years. Reasons Why You Should Care about the NBA Lockout

The ongoing NBA lockout has so far resulted in the cancellation of a preseason and the first 100 games of the regular season. If an agreement is not reached between the players association and the owners, it is likely the NBA commissioner will be forced to cancel two more weeks of the regular season – about 102 additional games – setting the start date for the season at November 28th.
It’s easy to look at the lockout from the outside and look down on quibbling millionaires (or in some cases, billionaires). However, the lockout is about much more than the checks of a few hundred players. Here are five broader reasons why you should care:
Jobs
The NBA generates about $3 billion a year – that’s a lot of soft pretzels! Not all of it is players’ salaries, though. There is such a thing as “basketball related income”; in fact, that’s the actual reason why the NBA is locked out. This related income refers to the arenas and the vendors in those arenas, and as long as the NBA is locked out those places cannot function. CNN reported on the ways in which local shops and venues have already been affected.
Economic Impact
Hugely popular franchises like the Chicago Bulls pull in fans from both their franchise cities and surrounding areas. Chicago hotels that would normally accommodate these travelling fans stand to lose millions if the season doesn’t start soon. Earlier this year when the Bulls made the playoffs, that alone brought 30 million into the Chicago economy.
TV Revenue
Networks that broadcast NBA games stand to lose incredible amounts of ad revenue money – as much as $1.25 billion according to Adweek. That figure is based on the loss of an entire season, and though the sides can’t seem to agree on anything, it’s not likely that the entire season will be flushed away. Who wants to watch sports TV when there aren’t any sports on? Not willing to shed a tear for the networks? Without basketball to fill the schedule, you’ll be forced to watch terrible reruns of cancelled shows!
Cheerleaders

What will we do without the Luvabulls, Laker Girls, Pacemates and A-Town Dancers?
Increased Time
When the NFL lockout was happening earlier this year, there was a genuine concern about the safety of the nation. NFL star Ray Lewis put it this way:
“Do this research if we don’t have a season — watch how much evil, which we call crime, watch how much crime picks up, if you take away our game. There’s too many people that live through us, people live through us. Yeah, walk in the streets, the way I walk the streets, and I’m not talking about the people you see all the time.”
An ongoing lockout will likely result in a rise in rampant and unchecked crime in the streets. So if you don’t want to get stuck for your paper in a dark alley, you better hope the season starts again. And quick.

Expected NFL Blowouts

  Cleveland Browns vs Pittsburgh Steelers

With Ben Roethlisberger back on the team and Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy making his first NFL start, this is likely to be a lopsided battle. The spread is at 14 points and I would be surprised if the Steelers aren’t able to easily cover that. We’ll have to wait and see if Big Ben comes out of the gates a bit rusty or not, but there no doubt in my mind the Steelers D will be tormenting Cleveland’s young QB all day long. Steelers should have a big win here on Sunday.

Most Significant Injuries Going Into the 2010 NFL Season

Byron Leftwich, Pittsburgh Steelers

With Ben Roethlisberger guaranteed to miss the first 4 games of the season, the quarterback battle in Pittsburgh has been between veteran Byron Leftwich and Steelers fifth round pick in 2008, Dennis Dixon. Leftwich, now sidelined with a potentially serious knee injury after Thursday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, has give way Dennis Dixon starting off the season. Although Dixon has quite a pair of legs on him, his poor performance last week could spell trouble for Pittsburgh as they look to keep their heads above water until Big Ben returns in week 5.

“Big Play” NFL Defensive Players

It’s no doubt that big defensive plays in the NFL can quickly change the complex of a game and help spark a team’s offense when they are struggling. In week 14, we saw a great example of this as the Pittsburgh Steelers went on to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23 to 7. The Bengals took an early lead in the game to go up 7-0. With the Steelers offense unable to put any points on the board, Troy Polamalu broke the ice with a 45 yard interception return for a touchdown. This play single handedly changed the entire complexion of the game and put an end to any offensive

3 Best Quarterback Options for the San Francisco 49ers

It’s been a rough decade for Niners fans. The San Francisco 49ers have not made it to the playoffs since 2002, back when Jeff Garcia was quarterback. It seems like every year the Niners will finally make a run for the playoffs, but the Niners have not managed to pull it together. The 2010 Seattle Seahawks were the first team in NFL history to make it to the playoffs with a losing record. With that being said, if the 49ers can post a winning record in 2011, they have a shot at making the playoffs.
The Niners made the right choice by firing head coach Mike Singletary after being eliminated in 2010, but the next key position that needs to be filled is quarterback. Both Troy Smith and Alex Smith are not the answers at the quarterback position, the best choice is to trade for a veteran or franchise quarterback. Let’s take a look at the 3 best quarterbacks the Niners should consider. As always, Superbowl Odds are provided by BetUS.
